It has been written quite a few articles about artificial intelligence so far. Usually, they point out pros and cons, its huge potential compared to the fear from violence. First question that many people ask is - Can Artificial Intelligence really put in jeopardy people’s jobs and cause unemployment crisis? Well, each coin has two sides.
Needless to say, in some cases, AI may lead to some dangers. Certain people are often scared of losing their jobs due to the ongoing research on machines, that might have the potential to substitute their place at work in future. However, they are made in order to improve the velocity of workflow. It can be argued that primary input is not to make employees lose their jobs. Even though what will happen in the future and whether this is a serious threat is a matter of further discussion.
Other issue that emerges is to what extent have articial intelligence helped us to facilite our every day lives. It’s true that given the technological boom and IoT (Internet of Things), everything is virtually connected. Thus, the chance you will use one device to control everything you need instead of all your other devices is growing exponentially. Therefore, you can benefit from AI and save your time.
Moreover, in relation to artificial intelligence, there is an ongoing debate that puts AI vs. natural intelligence. Natural intelligence is not based on algorithms and codes and consists of basic human perception and the way of processing the information. Presumably, putting this kind of human characteristic into AI might take longer.
Following this further, cognitive computing is the field of research that tries to make it possible by imitation of human emotions. Yes, it is already happening. Whether it sounds futuristic or not, machines might start feeling what we feel.
To conclude, artificial intelligence results in many different things that will change our lives, but there is not that much to fear these days. This is not an American movie, machines will not take over humankind. Probably :)
